The ZUK Z1 will be getting the update in the coming weeks

Lenovo promised to provide both its high-end smartphones ZUK Z1 and Z2 Pro with Android 7.0 Nougat updates in the first quarter of the year. The former is supposed to receive a beta version of the update, while the latter should be directly upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat.

A new report coming from China claims Lenovo has already started seeding Android 7.0 Nougat for ZUK Z2 Pro, as promised. The update is coming as ZUI 2.5, which is based on Google's new Android version. It's the same version that was rumored to come to Motorola smartphones sold in China.

The beta version of Android 7.0 Nougat hasn't arrived for ZUK Z1 users yet, but Lenovo promised that would happen sometime in January, so there's still time. A stable build could be pushed to Z1 devices as early as February.

It's also worth mentioning that since the ZUK Z2 Pro has already started to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update, we expect the Chinese company to offer a similar treatment to ZUK Z2 users.

ZUK Z2 Pro was among the cheapest smartphones to pack 6GB of RAM when it went on sale back in June 2016. Unfortunately, the smartphone was only available in China and a few other Asian countries, just like its standard sibling, the Z2.

The phone ships with ZUK's proprietary ZUI 2.0 based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system. The Chinese company announced late last year that the smartphone would be upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat, which is kind of a surprise considering the brand is not that popular.

However, it looks like the thin smartphone portfolio allows ZUK to offer great software support to its customers.

Not many handset makers released Android 7.0 Nougat for their flagships, so it's quite surprising that a small company like ZUK managed to do that.
