ZTE and Meizu will both unveil smartphones on the same day

Not so long ago, we told you that Meizu started sending out invites to its M2 launching event set for July 29 which contained a box housing a semi-functional Nokia 1110.

Back then, we speculated that this might mean Meizu would be talking about a possible partnership with Nokia during the event, but that was just a theory.

Anyway, in the Western world, it is customary to see competing companies such as Apple, Samsung or Microsoft openly make fun of each other. And now, it seems that the trend has extended over into China as well.

ZTE, for example, is gearing up to unleash a new model on the market as well, called the V5, which will probably be a direct competitor to the M2.

And in order to promote its yet-to-be-unveiled handset, ZTE has come up with a pretty acid marketing strategy. The company too has started sending out invites to its V5 event, which contain a Nokia 1110 as well, a smashed one to be more precise. Talk about killing the competition, literally.

Is ZTE trying to kill Meizu's M2 launch party?

The upcoming V5 has leaked in several images already, showing a phone with a unibody alloy design, single LED flash, and fingerprint scanner on the back.

Earlier, ZTE had released models from the V5 family with plastic bodies, but now the company is refining the offer.

Other specs for the device haven’t been revealed yet, but we assume the phone will arrive with a display of around 5.5 inches, at least 2GB of RAM, and probably a Qualcomm 615 chipset on the inside (the MediaTek option should not be ruled out).

Interestingly enough, the ZTE phone is supposed to launch on the very same day as Meizu’s, so naturally the company is trying to build hype around its release.

On the other hand, word on the street has it that Meizu was forced to change the circular glowing home button on its current MX5 flagship, because ZTE sued the company for copying the design language it used for its Blade and Nubia series of handsets.

So, is the smashed Nokia 1110 invitation card from ZTE a revenge manifest? What do you think?
