Today, ZTE has finally launched its latest flagship, the Axon 7. The smartphone has first been introduced in China, but it’s expected to hit international markets as well, including the United States, Europe, and other regions.

Initially, the device was called the Axon 2, but it seems that the company ultimately decided to go with Axon 7. One reason is surely consumer perception, since the Galaxy S7 series was launched earlier this year, and the iPhone 7 will be arriving in just a few months.

The Axon 7 is definitely a high-end smartphone with powerful specs and a very sleek design because of the bezels, which are thinner than those of its predecessors. ZTE even partnered with a renowned pianist, Lang Lang, to be the ambassador of the Axon 7.

The reason is the flagship’s excellent sound output capabilities thanks to the AK4961 audio DSP codec. In fact, the company has demonstrated the phone’s Hi-Fi sound features in a recently released video.

Moving on to specs, the handset comes with a 5.5-inch QHD (2560x1440) 2.5D curved AMOLED display and is available in two variants. The first comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which is expandable to 128GB using a microSD card. The premium version packs 6GB of RAM and a whopping 128GB of internal storage.

Axon 7 has Snapdragon 820 and a 20MP rear camera

Axon 7 comes with the Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core processor, together with Adreno 530 GPU for graphics rendering. It also has a 20MP rear camera with closed-loop instant autofocus, OIS, and f/1.8 aperture. The front camera is 8MP with f/2.2 aperture.

The smartphone draws power from a 3,250 mAh battery, and it comes with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0.

Axon 7 has two front-facing speakers, NFC, and comes with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 out of the box, together with the company’s MiFavor 4.0 UI on top. It has Type-C USB 3.0 port, and it measures 151.7 x 75 x 7.9mm.

It also has fingerprint 3.0 recognition and weighs 255 grams. Axon 7 will be sold for a price of $450 (£403), and it will be compatible with Google’s virtual reality platform Daydream.
