ZTE has been recently hit with a $1.19 billion record fine for violating U.S. trade agreements, so the Chinese company is likely to lose a lot of money and customers over the coming months.

However, that doesn't mean the development process should suddenly stop. ZTE has many smartphones in the pipeline and one of them has just been spotted at GFXBench, your go-to database of unannounced devices.

The phone is codenamed ZTE Z986 and should be made official in the coming months. Unfortunately, these synthetic benchmarks are not always accurate, so there's no telling whether or not the specs listed are truly correct.

Until ZTE makes the phone official, or sources familiar with the company's plans reveal more details on the device, let's assume that these specs are accurate. That being said, let's take a look at some of the most important components found inside the ZTE Z986.

Well, first off, the smartphone is powered by Android 7.1.1 Nougat, which is quite unusual for any handset, not to mention that this is a ZTE device.

As shocking as it might seem, it looks like ZTE wants to be the first company to release a smartphone powered by the Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system.

The smartphone could pack a dual-camera setup on the back

Another interesting piece of information is the fact that the phone will boast a huge 6-inch display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution.

On the inside, the ZTE Z986 is said to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 processor, paired with an Adreno 506 graphics processing unit, only 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal memory.

The 12-megapixel rear-facing camera is supposed to be able to record 4K videos, which is quite surprising. We believe the ZTE smartphone could feature a dual-camera setup, though. In the front, the Z986 should feature a 5-megapixel camera that can record full HD (1080p) videos.

That's about all we know about ZTE's unannounced phablet, but we'll be keeping a close eye on this one, so stay tuned for more on the matter.
