Quite some time has passed since ZTE launched a new device in its Axon series, after the Axon Max phablet was unveiled in December last year. Fans of ZTE phones have a reason to get excited since the company CEO released pictures of the upcoming ZTE Axon 2.

The set of pictures features an image that makes a comparison between the iPhone 6s, Huawei P9 and the ZTE Axon 2, with emphasis on the fact that the smartphone has an improved design, without any screws at the bottom. The CEO mentioned that the company is aiming for a minimalistic design, thus removing the screws at the bottom of the smartphone case. The design will follow the guidelines of the phone’s predecessor, ZTE Axon.

Unlike the Huawei P9 and the iPhone 6S, the new ZTE flagship will come with USB port and the microphone at the bottom, but the speakers are placed at the back of the phone, which is not the best location since they might output a muffled sound when the phone is placed on a flat surface.

Ultra powerful camera and battery

ZTE Axon 2 is set to boast a 5.5-inch Quad HD display, the same as its predecessor, ZTE Axon launched in July 2015. The initial model came with 1.5 octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and Android Lollipop 5.1.1, while the successor is expected to come with Android 6.0.1 out of the box.

Axon 2 has recently showed up on TENAA, the Chinese telecommunications equipment certification, which shed some light on the specs of this device. ZTE Axon 2 might come with the Snapdragon 820 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage further expandable to up to 128GB.

The phone will come with a whopping 20MP rear camera and 8MP in the front. The device will drain power from a 3140mAh battery and it will come with a top-end Sharp 2K panel, which should also be ideal for VR.

There are no details on the release date or whether the smartphone will be available in other regions, besides Asia. However, the new Axon model will be available in other countries after the official launch, just like its predecessor, ZTE Axon.
