ZTE plans to extend its Axon lineup of devices

The hype around tablets has been dying down as of late and device manufacturers seem to be focusing on smartphone products rather than slates. But some device manufacturers haven’t yet given up on the category.

Actually, it seems that we’re soon going to see an avalanche of maxi tablets get released on the market. One example is Samsung’s Galaxy View tablet, which was teased by the South Korean company at IFA 2015 and is expected to arrive into the wild with a massive 18.4-inch display. On top of that, the tech giant has been rumored to be working on a 12-inch slob with Windows 10 on board and possibly a 4K display.

Other device makers have also worked on maxi tablets, like Alcatel which released a 17.3-inch model called OneTouch Xess not so long ago, and rumors say we’re soon bound to see another huge tablet from this manufacturer launch on the market.

And as it turns out, Chinese device maker ZTE will be joining the ranks of manufacturers of large tablets.

Pocket Now has spotted a fresh benchmark listing which suggests that a new ZTE tablet might be in the works. According to the rumor mill, the new device will be part of the Axon lineup which currently includes some premium smartphones.

The ZTE Axon tablet will be pretty powerful

The benchmark listing shows the device with model number A2016 and reveals that it will arrive with a 13.7-inch display, which is a pretty atypical form factor, but then again, so is the 18.4-inch size of the Galaxy View.

Lately, we have been complaining about the lack of innovation when it comes to tablets, so maybe OEMs are trying to redefine the category. Such a tablet would probably end up being used more like a laptop, so ZTE will have to offer an additional keyboard accessory to make the experience complete.

The benchmark listing goes on to reveal that the tablet will boast FHD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) and draw life from a Snapdragon 810 processor under the hood in combination with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

Another weird aspect comes from the photography department, where we find that ZTE will add a 7MP frontal camera, but only a 1.8MP rear-facing camera. To be fair, tablet photography has never taken off and it’s odd to envision people going around taking pictures with a 13.7-inch device.

ZTE hasn’t confirmed anything about an upcoming Axon tablet, so we’d better take this info with a grain of salt.
