The developers of the Ubuntu-based Zorin OS operating system announced the release of the Zorin OS 12.1 Education Edition, a specially crafted and officially supported flavor of the OS designed for educational institutions.

Zorin OS 12.1 Education Edition is based on the same Ubuntu release as the other official Zorin OS 12 variants, and it ships with some of the latest and greatest GNU/Linux technologies and Open Source software, as well as a layer of educational apps that promise to make learning better and more impactful.

"This new release of Zorin OS Education takes advantage of the new features and enhancements in Zorin OS 12, our biggest release ever. These include an all-new desktop environment, a new way to install software, entirely new desktop apps and much more," reads the announcement.

Based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

Being based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus), Zorin OS 12.1 Education Edition inherits its long-term supported Linux 4.8 kernel, which Canonical maintains with security patches for five years, until April 2021, offering support for the latest hardware components, so you can deploy the OS on all sort of computers, new and old.

Zorin OS 12.1 Education Edition appears to be the ideal choice for large deployments in various educational institutions, including schools and universities, and it ships with all the tools that both teachers and students need to boost their productivity in class. It's also the ideal operating system for a small home office.

Zorin OS 12.1 is currently the latest stable version of the Ubuntu-based operating system, and you can download both Zorin OS 12.1 and Zorin OS 12.1 Education Edition from our website if you want to use it on your machines.
