The stable version can't be too far ahead

A new version of Zorin OS has been released over the weekend, and it comes with a ton of new stuff, not to mention an updated desktop design. We now take a closer look at this distro to see what's so special about it.

Zorin operating systems have been different right from the start, and one of the developers' goal was to ensure that the distribution has a similar look and feel with Windows. It might seem strange, especially if you take a look at the overall design that doesn't seem to be all that similar. In any case, users will find that the Zorin Look Changer tool has options like Windows XP and Windows 7.

It's also worth pointing out that despite its supposed resemblance with older Windows versions, Zorin OS is definitely unique and interesting enough to make you turn your head. For example, it's much smoother and much more beautiful than any product from Microsoft, and it probably has a much longer support period.

What are some of the default apps

Zorin OS is built on Ubuntu, and as you can see from the screenshot tour below, it comes with pretty much the same overall packages, like Empathy or Firefox, but there are a few others that you won't find in Ubuntu. For example, the Geary email client is provided by default, along with Wine, Openshot Video Editor, and a few others.

A different set of wallpapers have been integrated, and there is no option for multiple desktops, at least not by default. The entire Behavior tab from Appearance is missing, so there are some major differences overall.

This is still a Release Candidate and it probably still has some issues, although we couldn't find any. On the other hand, the fact that an RC is already available for download means that a stable release for Zorin 10 is very close.

Enjoy!
