Former One Directioner is now signed to RCA Music

Zayn Malik has been living a lie for the 5 years he recorded music, performed and toured with his mates from One Direction. The former boybander, who announced his decision to exit the group in March this year, has just announced he is launching a solo career.

Malik is now signed to RCA Music, after being let out of his contract at SyCo, X Factor boss Simon Cowell’s label. One Direction came together and was launched on the hit British TV show, so it made sense for Cowell to jump at the chance to sign them.

However, that’s not the bad news.

Malik goes solo, says he’ll be making “real music” from now on

Available at the end of this post are the tweets Malik posted to his official feed, announcing the fact that he was now a solo recording artist with RCA. That he got a deal so quickly after leaving the band is a great thing and all his fans are happy for him, but the message he accompanies the announcement with is irksome to them.

As you can see, he says that this RCA deal is “the real reason” he left One Direction, because it will allow him to be “the real me” and make “real music.”

Fans are offended by this for 2, very serious reasons: number one, he’s been saying for months that he left because he wanted to lead “a normal life out of the spotlight,” and number two, he’s implying that One Direction don’t make “real music.”

Either way, Malik has been lying to the very fans he now expects to back him in his solo endeavor. So no wonder they’re upset.

A subtle One Direction diss

“I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight,” Malik said back in March on his departure from the band.

While some speculated that he wanted to spend time out of the spotlight to mend his relationship with his girlfriend, many more believed that Malik had simply lost interest in One Direction and had grown convinced that he could do much more than as 1/5 of a group, no matter how famous.

There was also talk of fights between the members of the band, with reports claiming the other 4 guys knew Malik wanted out by the way he was sabotaging them as an act.

Assuming there’s truth to all these reports, Malik’s exit wasn’t a drama-free one. And it seems that his former boss Cowell is siding with him on this one, since he’s tweeted his support on his next endeavor.

In this context, yes, Malik’s saying that he wants to make “real music” on his own terms sounds very much like he’s dissing One Direction.
