Has the partnership between the two come to an end?

Back in May, Micromax’s subsidiary Yu announced a new smartphone as part of its lineup. It was called Yuphoria and bundled lower-to-middle range specifications, including a 5-inch HD IPS display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution and a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor fitted with 2GB of RAM.

The phone run Android 5.0.2-based Cyanogen OS and was sold for the super affordable price tag of $115 / €102. However, in recent days, it has become apparent that the Micromax Yuphoria does no longer ship out with Cyanogen OS out of the box.

You see, Micromax and Cyanogen once had an exclusive partnership in India, one which dissolved the one that the later had with OnePlus. But it seems like the two might have broken things off too.

You might remember that last month the company unveiled the Yunique handset, which came bundling Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box instead of Cyanogen OS. Well, it seems that now Yu is shipping the older Yuphoria (the remaining items anyway) with stock Android Lollipop instead of Cyanogen OS.

Yu Yuphoria gets a price cut

The specifications remain unchanged, but there’s a notable difference. The new Yuphoria sells for a lower price tag, of $100 / €89. So if you don’t mind getting the phone with Android on board instead of Cyanogen, you can head over to Amazon and pick one item up.

In case you don’t remember, the device arrives in the wild with a 5-inch HD IPS display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Under the hood lies a 1.2GHz 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor in combination with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

On the imaging front, the Yuphoria features an 8MP f/2.2 camera with LED flash, plus a 5MP f/2.0 wide-angle shooter on the front. Other specs include a 2,230 mAh battery with Quick Charge support, 4G LTE and dual-SIM connectivity.

Neither Micromax nor Cyanogen has said anything about the possible dissolving of the partnership between them, so until we hear something from official sources, we can’t say with 100% certainty that the two companies have stopped working together.
