14 DAY TRIAL // YouTube is a bit of a black hole for productivity and everyone knows it. If you've ever wondered just how much time people spend on YouTube, well, you should know that the number has now reached 1 billion hours every day.
One billion hours! That's an insane number, but it wasn't like we weren't expecting it to happen. Back in 2015, YouTube announced it surpassed 500 million hours per day and 300 million hours per day in late 2014.
In fact, the milestone wasn't even reached in the past few days, but rather at some point last year.
So, how much is a lot?

If you were to sit and watch a billion hours of YouTube, it would take you over 100,000 years. 100,000 years ago, our ancestors were crafting stone tools and migrating out of Africa while mammoths and mastodons roamed the Earth. If you spent 100,000 years traveling at the speed of light, you could travel from one end of the Milky Way to the other (and you wouldn’t age a day!). And if you searched for 100,000 years on YouTube, you’d find a really killer KISS track," reads YouTube's blog post on the matter.
They go on putting emphasis on the greatest part about this milestone, which isn't the number itself, but the diversity of videos played day in and day out by people around the world, depending on their interests, their moods, their needs.
So, while YouTube has put in a lot of work to help achieve this milestone, it's not theirs alone, but belongs to all of us who spend our days on the video platform, whether that's done actually watching videos or having our favorite songs play in the background.
