Every time someone ubsubscribed, two were deducted

YouTubers had quite the scare a few hours ago as their subscriber numbers started to dwindle inexplicably. It seems that the service was affected by a massive glitch which caused channels to lose massive numbers of subscribers in just a few minutes.

Thankfully, the company has already fixed the problem, and the subscriber counts are back to normal and functioning properly. Users are also confirming all is back to normal now.

It seems that the problem stems from a glitch that causes YouTube to falsely detract two subscribers from an account every time one individual chooses to unsubscribe. That let the door open to trolls to repeatedly subscribe and unsubscribe from channels which caused massive drops in the total scores.

YouTuber BlackScreenTV is the one who spotted the issue first, which also affected the most popular channel on YouTube - PewDiePie. Saying this was the biggest glitch in the website’s history, BlackScreenTV live streamed the entire process, and there’s some foul language in there, if you intend to watch the video.

PewDiePie to the… rescue

Although this has been happening for a few days now, it seems that the bug only attracted attention after PewDiePie broadcast a live stream of the bug. Given his massive reach, it was only natural for this to happen.

The situation had gone to such extent that some subscriber counters went into the negatives just because of trolls taking advantage of the glitch.

“Yikes! Starting Monday, in some cases, we accidentally started counting two unsubs for the price of one. We’re working on a fix!” tweeted the official @TeamYouTube account.

Thankfully, by the time YouTube started working on the issue, no data had been lost. Correct numbers are showing now to almost all channels, so it shouldn’t be long before everything is back to normal in the land of YouTube.
