LiveStream does offer an immersive experience, bringing content creators and their fans closer together. That being said, YouTube added a new way to highlight user messages in the live chat stream.
Depending on the number of fans that the content creator has, the number of comments posted during the LiveStream can reach impressive amounts. But as the LiveStream progresses, comments are replaced by the newest ones and users would have to scroll through the whole feed in order to read all of them.
YouTube offers a way for users to make their comments stand out, but there’s a catch. The service’s new Super Chat feature highlights user messages, but it's available for a price. Super Chat comments are highlighted with a color and stay pinned in the ticker for a certain period of time, depending on the sum of money that was paid.
The feature will be available for Android, iOS will come later
“The color of your Super Chat, the period of time it stays pinned in the ticker, and the maximum message length are determined by the amount of your purchase,” YouTube stated.
A small number of creators have Super Chat available for LiveStreams, and by the end of the month, the number of creators will increase in 20 countries and viewers in 40 countries will be able to use the new features.
The Super Chat tool is currently available for Android, while iOS users will get it later, but YouTube didn’t specify exactly when.
To make a purchase, you simply need to tap on the dollar sign in the live chat, select the Send A Super Chat option, and choose the amount that you would like to pay. Then you must type the message, select Buy and Send to finish the purchase. Super Chats are non-refundable and YouTube displays a countdown ticker.
