All you have to do is gather the most clicks

Mycroft is the name of an artificial intelligence project designed to turn your house into a smart home. Its makers are trying to raise funds on Kickstarter, and they are now offering a free device to a user who will manage to spread the word more.

These kinds of promotions are always tricky to get to work because some Internet users will usually find a way to avoid following the rules. When those rules imply a number of referrals and clicks, it becomes even harder. That shouldn’t stop anyone from trying, and maybe with a little luck the campaign will be a success.

We wrote extensively about Mycroft, and it looks like a very promising project. From what we've seen so far, it's something that hasn't really been achieved until now. There are plenty of ways of making a smart home, but neither of those solutions is using open source software and really cool hardware.

Share a link and win one

The Mycroft team wants to raise as much money as possible, and that can only happen with the help of the community, and in return, someone will get to win one of these cool devices.

"To enter, you need to create a unique link for yourself using the URL below. Replace {yourname} with your Launchpad nickname (or Twitter handle if you don’t use LP). This link will redirect viewers to Mycroft’s Kickstarter campaign page, and record a referral for you. Then share your custom link through blog posts, Twitter, Facebook, or anywhere else that you can reach people who would be interested in supporting the project," said Michael Hall, Ubuntu community manager.

The winner of this contest will win a Mycroft Extendable unit, that is priced at $149 (€134) right now. Also, to make things interesting, the top tree users will also get their name programmed into the software and people will be able to ask Mycroft to tell them who they are.

You can find more details about this contest on Michael Hall's blog.
