Meizu announced yesterday that the new MX4 Ubuntu Edition smartphone would be made available on its website through a system of invites, and that system is now live. If you're lucky enough, you might be able to buy one.

Canonical and Meizu are trying something new this time with the MX4 Ubuntu Edition. Currently, if you want one of these phones, you'll have to go to the official website, play a simple Origami game, and maybe you're getting an invitation that will allow you to buy one of the phones. This might sound weird at first, but you need to take the bigger picture into consideration.

Surprisingly, the goal right now is not to sell as many phones as possible. This is just the first stage of a very long campaign and things are going to change, but for the time being, both companies are interested to see the phones in the hand of people who really want them and who pretty much know what they are getting themselves into.

You can now try to buy a Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition phone

After yesterday's announcement, Meizu has finally made the Origami website live and they have also personalized the experience to show some of the features of the new phone. There's nothing new or that we haven't seen before, but it's nice to see that Meizu decided to make something special just for this occasion.

"Click on the hotspots as indicated, by a white + to either unveil content or win an opportunity to purchase a Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition smartphone ('Prize'). Certain hotspots will win a Prize, others will not. Winning hotspots are generated at random by computer process. You are limited to three chances (that it, three hotspot clicks) per day, and you will be notified once you have used all your clicks after your third attempt. You will be able to resume play the following day when you will receive another three clicks," read the official website.

If you want to know more details about the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition, you should check out coverage of yesterday's event. It's not clear how long this game will be used, but if the flash sales from BQ are any indication, we can assume that it will last for a few months.
