A new update of the AndEX Oreo 8.1 computer operating system, a clone of the Android-x86 project, has been released, promising to let users install Android apps from the Google Play Store.

Previous releases of AndEX Oreo 8.1, which lets you install Google's latest Android 8.1 Oreo mobile operating system on your personal computer, didn't actually let users install Android apps from Google Play Store, but using a third-party package manager called Aptoide App Manager.

Developer Arne Exton has recently informed us about the availability of a new AndEX Oreo 8.1, build 180202, which apparently makes the Google Play store works as intended, allowing users to install their favorite Android apps without relying on a third-party application management tool.

In addition, the latest AndEX Oreo 8.1 release comes with not one but three window launchers pre-installed. These are the Windows 10 Launcher, Microsoft Launcher, and OO Launcher, an enhanced Android Oreo style launcher that offers numerous useful features and enhancements over other launchers.

New way to manually install AndEX Oreo 8.1 on your PC

AndEX Oreo 8.1 build 180202 is powered by Linux kernel 4.9.54 and features the GAPPS (Google Apps) package that gives users access to many of Google's services. The AndEX developer also reports on a new method of manually installing the latest AndEX Oreo 8.1 operating system on your PC, which he describes in detail here.

Besides installing AndEX Oreo 8.1 on your PC, you can also run it on VirtualBox or VMWare virtual machines in live mode, and, of course, you can install most Android apps and games from the Google Play Store. More details on the new release are available on developer's blog from where you can also buy it for only $9 USD.

But before you decide to buy AndEX Oreo 8.1 if you want to run Android 8.1 Oreo on your PC, you should keep in mind that Bluetooth doesn’t work and you can't watch Netflix movies or TV shows. Also, it looks like you'll have a better YouTube experience with the Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome web browsers.
