Install an app and behold the terrible design

With the help of a simple app, users can now experiment on Android how an iPhone X user feels when they are looking at the missing part at the top of the display.

iPhone X is a beautiful device with its edge to edge display, but it looks like it could have used a little bit more time in research. As it stands right now, the top part of the screen is covered by the camera notch and other sensors, which means that the display is covered by a black patch.

To make things worse, it looks like Apple had to make some modifications to the OS to work around the obvious problems and limitations. It’s not a great solution, but it’s the only one they have right now.

You can’t know what it’s like until you hold it

The favorite expression of Apple fans is that you have to hold the phone in your hand and experience firsthand how the notch looks on the screen. It’s not that bad, they say. The problem is that you’ll have to pay a lot of money for that privilege,

A developer took it upon himself to make a small Android application named XOutOf10 that imitates how the camera covers the display so that anyone with a phone can see for themselves how the iPhone X will look like.

It’s not a perfect application, and it has some flaws, but it’s likely that it gets some updates in the future. Also, XOutOf10 had a little bit of success, so now it also features some ads. It’s only in the settings screen, so it’s not all that annoying.

There is only one caveat. Users need to have at least Android 6.0+ on their device to make it work. It’s also quite possible that phones that have their own customized UI, such as Xiaomi or Huawei, will have problems with the app and the way it’s trying to draw on top of the other apps.

You can download the APK file for XOutOf10 from Softpedia, or you can download it from the Google Play store.
