As of today, it would appear that you can purchase an unlocked iPhone X smartphone without a SIM card directly from Apple's online store. Both 64GB and 256GB variants are currently available for purchase, and customers can buy the new iPhone in Space Gray or Silver color.
Until now, you could only buy the iPhone X from Apple's online store with a mobile carrier like AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, or Verizon through the iPhone Upgrade Program. In this case, you could buy the iPhone X for as low as $49.91 USD per month, but now you can buy it unlocked and use it with any other carrier out there.
Prepare to pay $999 USD for an unlocked iPhone X
The unlocked, SIM-free iPhone X is selling on Apple's online store for $999.00 USD for the 64GB variant and $1,149.00 USD for the 256GB model. Of course, these prices are only available for customers in the United States, for which Apple estimates delivery times of five business days.
We have no idea if you can buy the iPhone X in other countries than the US, but you can try by switching to your location from the flag icon at the bottom right of the apple.com website. In Canada, for example, you can buy the iPhone X from Apple's online store for $1,319.00 for the 64GB model or $1,529.00 for the 256GB one, though it isn't specified if it's unlocked and SIM-free, nor if it's carrier locked.
iPhone X was launched on November 3, 2017, in various countries around the globe and it was available in many other countries across Asia, Africa, Middle East, and Europe starting November 23. At the moment, iPhone X is available for purchase from local Apple Stores or Apple Retailers in over 70 countries.
