Google announced on Thursday that Android and iOS users can now finally send and request money to and from their contacts using Google Assistant and its Google Pay digital payments app.

As of today, if you live in the United States, it is possible to send money to your friends and family, as well as to receive money from your contacts using the Google Assistant virtual assistant on your Android or iOS mobile phone if you have the Google Pay Send app installed. With this, Google hopes to help you spend less time dealing with your debts and enjoy having fun.

"When the weekend’s over, chances are someone owes you (or you owe someone) money for something—Friday night's concert tickets, Saturday afternoon's barbecue supplies, or Sunday’s matinee at the movies. Starting today, you can ask your Google Assistant to pay your friends back with Google Pay," said Sam Kansara, Product Manager, Google Pay at Google.

Again, Google is currently rolling out this new payment feature to all Android and iOS users in the United States. To get started, you have to sign up for Google Pay first by creating an account, and then you can start asking Google Assistant to send money to your contacts by saying something like "Hey Google, send Samuel $20 for lunch today."

To request money, you'll have to invoke the Assistant with something like "Hey Google, request $30 from Samantha for the show tonight." Google says that all funds will be automatically transferred to and from the cred or debit card attached to your account. The transactions will work even if the recipient does not have a Google Pay account.

A notification, email or SMS will be sent to your contacts to cash out if they don't have the Google Pay Send app installed. The company didn't mention if this money sending and receiving feature is coming to more countries soon, but it promised to enable the ability to send money using Google Home or other supported voice-activated speakers in the coming months.
