Great news for Yahoo Messenger hardcore users, as developers have just announced they have completely overhauled the application and added tons of new features and improvements.

Lots of visual changes have been made to enhance user experience with Yahoo Messenger. According to Yahoo, the new application integrates the best of the Flickr, Tumblr and Xobni platforms.

The most important new features included in the latest version of Yahoo Messenger are mass photo sharing, option to like messages and animated GIFs.

First of all, Yahoo Messenger users can now send hundreds of photos at a time, and they will appear to everyone in the conversation almost instantly. The recipient will be able to download these photos in full quality if they wish so.

Developers also added a new feature that allows Yahoo Messenger users to “unsend” any message, photo or GIF. Also, users will now have the option to “like” a comment, photo or GIF. Both these features are available for 1:1 conversations but also for groups.

The application is much faster, as everything happens almost in real-time

As mentioned earlier, Yahoo Messenger finally allows you to use GIFs in conversation. You can search for GIFs within the application thanks to the ever-growing library pulled from the Tumblr community.

Smart Contacts is another new feature included in the latest update, which is powered by a Xobni's platform. “Our smart contacts system doesn’t just understand who you know, it also understands the relationship between your contacts, so adding people to the group is really fast and simple,” explains Jeff Bonforte, SVP of Product & Engineering for Communication Products.

But that's not all, as developers have confirmed that syncing conversations between Yahoo Messenger on the Web, in Yahoo Mail and on a smartphone now happens almost in real-time, thanks to all the improvements made under the hood.

You can now download Yahoo Messenger for Android for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 4.0 and up.

For iOS users, the application can be downloaded for free via App Store. It should work smoothly on all devices running iOS 8.0 or newer.
