The Xubuntu developers kicked off a new series of interesting articles where they interview various organizations from all over the world in regard to the usage of the Xubuntu Linux operating system.

As you might know, Xubuntu is an official flavor of the world's most popular free operating system, Ubuntu, built around the lightweight Xfce desktop environment, which means that it can be easily used on low-end machines and computers with old and semi-old hardware components.

In the latest interview article posted on the official Xubuntu website, the leaders of the Xfce-based Linux distribution talk with Mr. Jose M. Torres Ortiz, a teacher at Colegio Hispano Americano in Puerto Rico, who helps students learn how to use the Xubuntu operating system.

"As we’ve covered in other articles in this series, Xubuntu is being used world wide to serve a variety of communities with users of all ages. In this interview we spoke with Jose M. Torres Ortiz about how he uses Xubuntu where he teaches, at Colegio Hispano Americano in Puerto Rico," reads the announcement.

Xubuntu is the perfect choice for old computers

Colegio Hispano Americano is a private school in Puerto Rico and has Pre-K to 12-grade students. In the interview, which we recommend to read in full, Xubuntu leaders ask Mr. Ortiz all sorts of questions about why the school decided to install Xubuntu Linux on their computers and to use Open Source software.

The school uses Xubuntu on 20 old computers that are powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and have 2GB RAM (system memory). The Colegio Hispano Americano computer lab features a nice penguin (Tux) logo and it is dubbed "Xubuntu Lab."

The latest release of the Xubuntu Linux operating system is 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) and it's built around the Xfce 4.12 desktop environment. You can download Xubuntu 15.04 right now from Softpedia.
