When it comes to smartphones with curved displays, the most popular devices that come to mind are the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and S7 Edge. Seeing how these two models were very appealing to users, other smartphone manufacturers also decided to work on devices with curved screens.

Just days after rumors revealed that Xiaomi had been working on such a device, CEO Lei Jun confirmed the information.

It was said that Xiaomi would launch a new device with a curved display, named the Mi Edge or Mi Note Edge. Rumors say that it might hit the market this September, but this seems to no longer be the case.

Gizmochina reported on a recent tweet revealing that Xiaomi intends to use LG’s Curved Display panel on its upcoming device, rumored to have a 5.7-inch OLED display. The upcoming smartphone should have a metal body, a feature that more and more manufacturers seem to incorporate in their phones.

It’s expected to come with a Snapdragon 823 chipset and 6GB of RAM. Rear camera performance is set to reach 12 or 13MP, but there’s no information yet on the front camera.

The new Xiaomi phone could be unveiled in spring 2017

Xiaomi has definitely been keeping itself busy as it has just recently launched the Mi Max and MIUI 8 firmware. The smartphone came with a large display of 6.44 inches and 4850mAh battery capacity. It also featured an ultra-thin metal body of just 7.5mm and Snapdragon 652 processor. Front camera capacity was 5MP, it remains to be seen if the new edge-like model will also have the same camera specifications.

Vivo seems to have thought of this concept a little earlier than Xiaomi. In March this year, Vivo launched the Xplay 5, a smartphone with 5.43-inch dual-curved display and 4GB of RAM. It also launched a premium version, Xplay 5 Elite, the world’s first smartphone with 6GB of RAM.

It is rumored that the LG Curved display panel is not yet available on a large scale, therefore Xiaomi’s upcoming smartphone with curved-edge display should be released sometime in the spring of 2017.
