14 DAY TRIAL // Xiaomi has just announced two new smartphones, the Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus. The latter comes with a larger display compared to the first one and has some very powerful specs, including Qualcomm's ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.
Xiaomi's new smartphones were officially announced during a press conference held today at China's National Convention Center in Beijing.
The Mi 5s comes with a 5.15-inch 1080p display with 600 nits of brightness, and Xiaomi claims that it has 16-ultra-bright LED lights for improved brightness. The device runs a 2.15GHz Snapdragon 821 SoC and also comes with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It is priced at about $300.
There's also a version with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of local storage, which carries a price tag of $345. In addition, the smartphone has a 12MP camera on the back with Sony IMX 378 sensor and f/2.0 aperture. It supports PDAF, autofocus and is complemented by a 4MP frontal camera with 2-micron pixels and f/20 aperture.

Meanwhile, the Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus comes with a larger display, of 5.7 inches with 1080p resolution and 550 nits of brightness. It runs a 2.35GHz Snapdragon 821 SoC and has a dual-camera setup on the back with two 13MP sensors and a 4MP camera in the front, the same as on the Mi 5s.
The Plus model is available in two options as well. The 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage variant sells for about $345, while the 6GB of RAM and 128GB of local storage model has a price tag of $390. Both the Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus come in four colors: gold, rose gold, silver, and white. The phones will go on sale starting Thursday on JD.com and Mi.com.
Xiaomi Mi 5s comes with Qualcomm's ultrasonic fingerprint scanner Sense ID, which is placed under the glass of the home button. The sensor can recognize fingertips in a fraction of a second and it's less prone to damage. It can read finger details even if the finger is wet, oily or dirty.
The Mi 5s Plus comes with a fingerprint scanner placed at the back of the phone. Both smartphones support 4G LTE connectivity and come with Bluetooth v4.2, and GPS/ A-GPS options.
