Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship, the Mi5, has been leaking extensively in the last few months. According to word on the street, we have plenty of reasons to watch out for Xiaomi’s new premium model. Not so long ago, the phone was expected to be the first to arrive with a Snapdragon 820 out of the box.

In recent weeks, a popular Chinese analyst claimed that the Mi5 could arrive as soon as December, even if Qualcomm announced that the first Snapdragon 820-endowed smartphones would not make it out until March 2016.

Well, this information got refuted a few days ago, when a report came in saying that Xiaomi would announce the Mi5 with a MediaTek deca-core Helio X20. But the Snapdragon 820 might still arrive later next year, if we’re lucky.

Why the urgency to say that the Mi5 will make it out into the world with a MediaTek chipset under the hood? After all, Xiaomi might want to wait until next year to unveil its new flagships. But chances are it won’t.

New Xiaomi product coming on October 19

Xiaomi’s Weibo account just posted an invitation for a press event scheduled for October 19 and most likely we’re going to see the Mi5 make a debut. Sure, we’re not 100% certain this will indeed be the case, but we’re inclined to lean towards this possibility.

Much has been written about the possible specifications of the Xiaomi Mi5 and we’re here to give you a memory refresh. It’s quite possible that the flagship will make it out into the wild with a 5.2-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution (although QHD is not out of the cards).

Working hand in hand with the processor will be 4GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of internal storage. A 64GB variant might also be offered, given the fact that we’re dealing with a high-end model here.

Other tipped specs include a 16MP main camera plus an 8MP selfie shooter. Xiaomi is also throwing in a USB Type-C port plus a fingerprint sensor. The Snapdragon 820-based variant might feature Qualcomm’s fancy, new Ultrasound fingerprint tech.

We’ve also gotten word that the phone will be priced at around $315 / €277.
