14 DAY TRIAL // We've already reported on Xiaomi's Android update roadmap, which includes the recently released Mi Mix concept phone. However, the Chinese company did not offer too many details regarding the exact release date of its Android updates.
The good news is that sources familiar with Xiaomi's plans report the Mi Mix will be the next smartphone to receive the highly-anticipated Android 7.0 Nougat update.
According to a post on Xiaomi's forums, someone has “relatively ‘reliable’ news that your beloved Mi MIX will be getting Android 7.0 Nougat ROM updates! Mi MIX is the second Mi devices (after Mi 5) to receive Android 7.0 Nougat ROM updates!”
But don't get your hopes too high yet, as the update will be released as a beta build first. The internal testing might have already begun, but an Android Nougat beta build won't be available until 2017.
If you're the lucky owner of a Xiaomi Mi Mix, then here are some of the most important new features and improvements that you'll be getting after applying the upcoming Android 7.0 Nougat update.
First of all, Mi Mix users will be able to switch between apps with a double tap, as well as run two apps side by side, thanks to the new multi-window view and quick switch between apps features.
More than 1,500 emojis, including 72 new ones will be added, along with multi locale language settings. Vulkan API and VR mode will be included too, as well as the improved Doze mode for even better battery life.
Other new features include personalized settings, smarter notifications, rearranged Quick Setting tiles, and the ability to directly reply to notifications without opening any app.
Some security-based improvements will be implemented too, such as file-based encryption, direct boot, and seamless updates, which will allow users to download software updates in the background so they won't have to wait while their device syncs with the latest security tools.
