It will boast the same 6.44-inch edge-to-edge display

Xiaomi hasn't yet started to expand its smartphone business internationally and it probably never will, but that isn't bothering the Chinese company in the slightest.

Its mind-blowing Mi Max phablet was released in China to huge success last summer, and it looks like Xiaomi plans to launch its successor in just a couple of months from now.

A new rumor spotted by AndroidPure claims Xiaomi Mi Max 2 will be announced in May, but it will probably go on sale a few weeks later, in June.

There will be a couple of hardware changes that Xiaomi will operate, but the phone will most likely boast the same 6.44-inch edge-to-edge display. However, the Mi Max 2 is supposed to pack a larger amount of memory and a slightly better battery.

According to reports coming from China's Weibo social network, Xiaomi Mi Max's successor will be powered by a newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory.

The current Mi Mix model comes with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage, but it lacks microSD card slot for memory expansion. Unlike the Mi Mix which is powered by a 4,850 mAh battery, the sequel will feature a slightly larger 5,000 mAh battery inside.

There's no word on the camera, but we know the Mi Mix comes with a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with PDAF (phase detection autofocus) and a secondary 5-megapixel camera in the front with 85-degree wide-angle lens.

A fingerprint sensor might be included too and, hopefully, MIUI 8 based on Android 7.0 Nougat operating system. Price-wise, there shouldn't be differences between the two models, so the Mi Max 2 might cost $310 / €270 in China.

Xiaomi has decided to skip the Mobile World Congress (MWC) exhibition this year, so the Mi Max 2 is likely to be introduced in China at a dedicated event.
