One of the biggest Chinese smartphone makers on the market, Xiaomi, has just confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 will be unveiled on May 25 in China. The smartphone received an official release image on Weibo and some of its specs have surfaced in the past few weeks, according to a report.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is expected to feature a 6.4-inch display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, as well as 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The smartphone will run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 626 64-bit octa-core SoC, coupled with Adreno 506 graphics processing unit. The Mi Max 2 could also feature a 5,000mAh battery, higher than last year’s model.

The device could come with a 12MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie snapper in the front, while also running Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, with Xiaomi MIUI 8 on top. Rumors say that the Mi Max 2 will be made out of metal and will have a fingerprint scanner placed on the back.

5,000mAh battery and a price tag north of $217

The device will feature dual-LED and dual-tone flash on the rear, and the back panel will be slightly curved on the sides, while the loudspeaker will be located at the bottom. While official pricing isn’t available, rumors say that the Mi Max 2 could cost between $217 and $246, keeping up with Xiaomi’s commitment to offer smartphones with powerful performance and affordable price tags.

Just like with the Mi Max launched last year, Xiaomi could offer a premium version of the Mi Max 2, one that would carry 6GB of RAM and perhaps 128GB of internal storage, while its price tag would be higher than that of the regular version.

Xiaomi recently released the Mi 6 flagship smartphone with the latest Snapdragon 835 platform and 6GB of RAM, while the phone’s display size reaches 5.15 inches with Full HD resolution. Although there were rumors of a less potent Mi 6 variant with Snapdragon 660, Xiaomi quickly dismissed them after the launch.
