14 DAY TRIAL // For all those who are crazy about the Fury X liquid cooler and loved that external black box spitting liquid onto their GPU just because, XFX got you covered. All the poorer Fury X fans will be happy to know that the company is planning to sell a cheaper Fury X that's not really a Fury X.
The new offer from XFX is surely to become confusing on the longer run, but is clearly great for those who didn't want to spend around $1,000 on a new Fury X, although they loved its design, and settled with the cheaper R9 Fury.
XFX decided that confusion helps AMD fans in leading them to believe that they really have the top-tier AMD Radeon R9 Fury X card instead of just the R9 Fury that doesn't have the full AMD Fiji core.
So it basically sells an R9 Fury GPU with a Fury X Style Cooler. This means that it uses a custom version of AMD's reference R9 Fury X cooler, allowing users to buy an AMD R9 Fury which is water cooled at stock. However, since AMD does not allow board partners to modify the R9 Fury X, we will most definitely not be seeing an R9 Fury X GPU with these cooler modifications, which is a real shame.
XFX sells a Fury X that's not a Fury X
Although VideoCardz says that this is, in fact, a modified AMD Fury X, this is impossible, since AMD doesn't allow such custom modifications to take place on its Fury X. Additionally, their own leaked pictures say that this GPU is a Fury and not a Fury X.
Not much is known about the new card specs-wise, but we can expect it to be a tad more powerful than the default R9 Fury. Coming at a possible 1,000MHz and 1,050MHz, it will represent the limit at which the R9 Fury can go. In our ASUS STRIX R9 Fury review, we slightly overclocked our card to just over 1,100Mhz and it inevitably crashed. We hope that with liquid-cooling such occurrences won't happen that often.
It's unknown when XFX plans to launch this new exquisite card, but if the product is real, we should expect an announcement for this GPU fairly soon.
