It looks like Intel and AMD are lagging again

Feral Interactive, the publisher and studio that ports XCOM 2 for Linux and Mac OS X, announced the system requirements for the game and has some bad news for Intel and AMD users.

XCOM 2 launches in a couple of days, on February 5, and Feral Interactive has been working for a while on this title. They will be able to release the game on Linux and Mac OS X along with the Windows platform, which is a great achievement. They also published the system requirements for XCOM 2, and they aren't all that demanding.

As usual, Intel won't be able to run this game, but it's not because their integrated solution is not powerful enough. From the looks of it, the support is not great in the official drivers.

The other company on this short list is AMD. It's not the first time when AMD is excluded from a major title and Alien: Isolation comes to mind. The developers did a similar thing, ahead of the launch, but then pulled the announcement. AMD released a hotfix for the drivers and Alien worked just fine (this is a relative term on Linux, meaning that at least it runs, even if not great).

XCOM 2 only for Nvidia

“Feral has today revealed the minimum and recommended system requirements for the upcoming XCOM 2 for both Mac and Linux. To play XCOM 2, you'll need to be running the latest version of Mac OS X, or Ubuntu 14.04.2 (64-bit) or SteamOS for Linux-based machines. Both versions require at least 1GB of video memory with an Intel 64-bit CPU running at 2.4GHz (Mac) or an Intel i3 series processor (Linux),” developers wrote on their blog.

It's worth noting that they are working on making the game work with Intel and AMD hardware, but for the time being only the Nvidia users will be able to fully enjoy XCOM 2.
