Today, Adam Jackson of X.Org Foundation has announced the release and immediate availability for download of the first maintenance build in the X.Org Server 1.18 stable series.

X.Org Server 1.18.1 represents the work done by the X.Org project's developers in the last three months, and it is here to addresses many of the issues reported by users since the release of X.Org Server 1.18.0 on November 9, 2015 (exactly three months ago). Among the highlights, we can mention several XWayland improvements, lots of Glamor patches, as well as some changes in the Present extension and the modesetting driver.

"First release in the 1.18 stable branch. Major themes are bugfixes in glamor, the modesetting driver, and the Present extension. Xwayland users may want to apply the following pair of patches in addition to this release, which combined fix an input issue when hotplugging monitors. Both are likely to be included in a future release unless testing discovers further problems," says Adam Jackson in today's announcement.

Users are urged to update as soon as possible

The patches mentioned above can be found at https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/72945/raw/ and https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/72951/raw/, or you can check out the official release notes (link above), where you'll also find all the changes that have been implemented in this first point release of X.Org Server 1.18.

As expected with any new update of the X.Org Server display server for GNU/Linux operating systems, users are urged to update as soon as possible if they want to have a more stable and reliable distribution. Therefore, we're recommending OS vendors to download the X.Org Server 1.18.1 sources and update the packages in the default software repositories of their distributions for users to upgrade immediately.
