14 DAY TRIAL // One of the first true torrent applications available for Windows Phone devices, wpTorrent has just received a major update which makes it compatible with the latest version of the mobile platform and adds a handful of new features and enhancements.
Windows Phone 8.1 early adopters will be pleased to know that wpTorrent now allows them to copy files to an SD card or other hubs in the phone for later viewing.
Unlike many other so-called torrent applications available for mobile phone, wpTorrent actually allows you to download torrents directly on the phone. This is a native bit torrent client, which supports both Windows Phone 8 and 8.1.
However, keep in mind that wpTorrent will not be able to save files you wish to download directly to the SD card, but you will be able to copy them wherever you wish after the download is over.
Another fair warning given by the developers is the fact that Windows Phone does not support background download for torrent, so you won’t be able to do that with wpTorrent.
Aside from that, wpTorrent seems to be a great torrent application that is available in both free (with ads) and paid versions. Developers also mention that while there’s a speed limitation of 300KB/s in the free version, they do no guarantee downloading data speeds of more than 300KB/s in the paid one.
This is due to the fact that downloads mostly depend on the numbers of peers and seeders available for the torrent file you wish to download. If there are fewer peers and seeders available, it means that the download speed will be much lower.
wpTorrent offers a lot of features and useful tools that make downloading torrents a smooth experience. The application also comes with an integrated video and music player, which allows users to watch videos and play music while they are downloaded.
There’s also a file manager included, something that Microsoft has failed to include in Windows Phone 8.1, but which it has promised to release in a couple of weeks. wpTorrent also has some power saving options and allows users to manage search engine.
