Insomnia? How about soothing music, and nice ambient light

In the growing world of smart objects, lamps could never have made an exception. Since nightstands are even more of a mandatory bedside furniture since they hold your charging phones, kindles and books, it was just a matter of time until lamps on your nightstands will turn into local technological hubs.

This this regard, the Indiegogo project "Luzi" will replace all your charging wires that connect your mobile tech to a power supply or electrical socket and turn itself into a socket filled, voice activated, charging bed-bound assistant.

Luzi Smart Lamp is an advanced system that uses therapeutic light together with personalized sound, and voice commands to help users fall asleep faster and wake up more refreshed. The charging hub is comprised of 4xUSB ports, or via the optional wireless charging base.

The Luzi features a better sleep routine, it wakes users up with soothing music to help them getting a relaxed morning, and with Relevant Recommendations integrated tool, it can automatically adjust your light, sound, and temperature to help you get your perfect sleep conditions. The smart lamp also features a small screen on which you can set the time, thermometer or any other useful data.

However, one major feature is its voice assistant that will have the Luzi introduced into the typical housebound voice assistant market currently dominated by Amazon and Google with their Echo and Google Now.

Pushing the design further

Although limited to sleep-related functionality, both the assistant and the Relevant Recommendations can turn into the future a larger applicability.

Priding itself as being designed in Palo Alto, California, just like Facebook, the Luzi is made by people who "have trouble with sleep," in a country that apparently has trouble with sleep and is trying to find various methods to counter lack of sleep causes like depression or jet-lag.

Although extremely promising as a device charging hub, and ambient customization assistant, the voice assistant part will probably have to face the strong competition offered by Amazon's Echo, or Alexa, who will pair itself with any smart object in your house, and maybe, eventually even with Luzi.
