She couldn't take it on the plane and so she drank it

Last Friday, a woman tried to board a flight from Beijing to Wenzhou with a bottle of expensive cognac in her carry-on luggage.

Naturally, customs officials at Beijing Capital International Airport stopped her and told her that liquor does not proper hand luggage make. The simplest solution: throw away the bottle.

Except the woman found something better to do with it

Rather than ditch the bottle, the woman decided to pop it open and drink it whole. After all, one does not simply throw away perfectly good cognac, more so if it's of the expensive kind.

Witnesses say the woman, identified by the surname Zhao, chugged down the bottle of cognac in one go. She had to, otherwise she would have wasted a lot of time and she would have surely missed her flight.

By the time she made it to the boarding gate, the cognac lover was seriously intoxicated. She could not hold her balance on her own and she kept shouting.

“She was so drunk she couldn’t even stand up herself,” a law enforcement officer at Beijing Capital International Airport explained in an interview.

Apparently, the liquor turned out to be well worth the $200 (€174) the woman had paid for it.

For all her determination, the woman still missed her flight

Being as intoxicated as she was after drinking her Remy Martin XO Excellence bottle whole, the woman was not allowed to board her flight to Wenzhou, Time reports.

Instead, customs officials brought a wheelchair and took her to an isolated room, where they let her sleep for a few good hours. “We took her to a room in a wheelchair so she could rest,” one of her caretakers said.

When she woke up, the woman was much calmer, even friendly. She thanked the airport staff for looking after her, and once fully sobered up, she caught another flight.
