iPhone 8 needs a Touch ID in the screen, he adds

The upcoming iPhone 8 is playing a much more important role than we thought for the Cupertino-based company, as the way the company deals with the Touch ID saga will show whether it can beat Samsung in terms of flagships or not.

This is what former Apple creative director Hugh Dubberly said recently, with analysts speaking for the Wall Street Journal emphasizing that even top employees who left the company in the last few years believe that Apple is losing the cool factor.

Just like everyone else, Dubberly compares Tim Cook’s Apple with Steve Jobs’, pointing out that the company has become more of a follower and now it has a hard time keeping up with Samsung. As a result, the upcoming iPhone 8 does not afford to be just a design makeover, but a device overhaul altogether, with the Touch ID sensor integrated into the display to be a decisive feature.

Analysts claim Samsung has raised the bar substantially higher with the Galaxy S8 and Apple won’t be able to impress buyers across the world with just a simple design update on the iPhone.

Samsung, the design innovator

As a result, Samsung has become the leader in terms of design innovation, and Apple needs to improve substantially as far as features go, with the Touch ID integrated into the screen seen as a winner card, especially because the South Korean rival firm failed to implement such a feature.

Apple, however, is said to be having a hard time deciding the location of the fingerprint sensor, and this is why the company has actually pushed back mass production for one month.

Tim Cook wants to buy more time until a decision in this regard is made, with the company believed to be even considering giving up on Touch ID entirely, going instead for 3D facial recognition using cameras placed in the sensor bar at the top of the screen.

The iPhone 8 will see daylight in September, but the device might actually hit the shelves in November due to this struggle with the Touch ID sensor.
