Wireshark, the world’s most popular, open-source, free, and cross-platform network protocol analyzer that is being used for analysis, development, education, and troubleshooting purposes, has been updated to version 1.12.8.

Wireshark 1.12.8 is mostly a bugfix release that patches a crash in the pcapng file parser, makes it possible for the GVCP bit-fields to be updated, correctly dissects an 802.11 frame that contains HT Control, and resolves a crash in the Tshark, which occurred when attempting to specify the ssl.keys_list via command-line.

Furthermore, the UNISTIM dissector has been improved and an issue with the length of the message when it was not included in "Select Adjustable Rx Volume"'s offset was fixed, a crash that occurred when attempting to compare two capture files during navigation of results has been addressed, and the las address field for the IPv6 RPL routing header is now correctly interpreted.

Several network protocols have been updated

The pcapng capture file has been updated and several bugs were plugged, among which we can mention incorrect truncation of the SPB capture length if the IDB snaplen value is 0, an issue with the NRB IPv4 address, a file read failure when using NRB with options, and an issue with the maximum value of ISB when the if_drop option is not present.

Last but not least, several network protocols have been updated in the new Wireshark release, among which we can mention IPv6, IEEE 802.11, DIAMETER, UNISTIM, and GVCP. Download Wireshark 1.12.8 for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now from Softpedia, where you will find both 32-bit and 64-bit binaries, as well as the source package.

The Wireshark team informs users that several known issues remain in this release, so you should carefully read the release notes posted on the project's website before attempting to use the software and report bugs. Also, they are currently working hard on the next major version of the software, Wireshark 2.0.0.
