Wine Staging 2.12 has been released today, based on the latest Wine 2.12 development release that was announced last week, bringing various performance improvements for several Windows games.

First off, Wine Staging 2.12 incorporates all the new features and enhancements that landed upstream in Wine 2.12, including but not limited to the implementation of an audio driver for Android, initial support for the MSI user interface, various RegEdit file parser enhancements, as well as some async I/O performance improvements.

Wine 2.12 also improved support for various Windows games and apps, including Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Lost Horizon, MyLifeOrganized, BOSE SoundTouch, and Spotify. On top of that, Wine Staging 2.12 adds support for depth bias and depth clamping in Direct3D 11 (D3D11) and support for copying between resources that have compatible DXGI formats.

The Witcher 3 and Assassin's Creed III get improvements

Apart from those new features, it would appear that Wine Staging 2.12 fixes some rendering bugs in multiple Windows games and applications, including The Witcher 3, Assassin's Creed III, Trackmania Turbo, and Unigine Heaven Benchmark 4.0, and it now automatically detects when to use the OpenGL core or compatibility context.

Other than that, there are various startup improvements for the latest Steam Client version as of July 6, 2017, better support for the Mesa graphics driver as users no longer need to create the MaxVersionGL registry key when using Direct3D 10 or Direct3D 11 applications and games. Of course, Wine Stating 2.12 includes various other smaller bug fixes and enhancements, some of which are from Wine 2.12.

Wine Stating 2.12 is available for download as a source tarball right now from our website if you fancy compiling it on your personal computer, but we recommend that you install it directly from the software repositories of your favorite GNU/Linux distribution when it lands there. Wine Stating 2.12 is a recommended update for all Wine Stating users.
