Just a few moments ago, the development team behind the Wine Staging open-source project that attempts to distribute a more advanced version of the popular Wine software for running Windows apps and games on Linux-based operating systems announced the release of Wine Staging 1.9.23.

Based on last week's Wine 1.9.23 development release, Wine Staging 1.9.23 is here today, November 16, 2016, to improve the Certificate Revocation List (CRL) check logic for better support of Ubisoft's uPlay digital distribution client on GNU/Linux distributions.

Being based on Wine 1.9.23, Wine Staging 1.9.23 inherits all of its new features and improvements, among which we can mention the HID bus support for Apple's latest macOS Sierra 10.12 operating system, color font support in Direct2D, the addition of extra color formats in Direct3D, and MSI uninstallation improvements.

Wine Staging 1.9.22 was also announced today, based on Wine 1.9.22

Of course, Wine Staging 1.9.23 also addresses various bugs reported by users since the Wine Staging 1.9.22 release, which, surprisingly, was also announced today on the project's website. Wine Staging 1.9.22 is also a minor update that only improves the GIF encoder in the windowscodecs component and fixes various issues.

Wine Staging 1.9.22 is, as expected, based on the Wine 1.9.22 development release, which means that it includes the revamped macOS clipboard support, an initial implementation of bitmap rendering in Direct2D, better HID support, and various improvements to the WebServices implementation.

Wine Staging 1.9.23 is now the latest version and you can download it from our website for Linux-based operating systems, where you'll also find Wine 1.9.23. However, as mentioned before, these are all development versions, which means that they might contain various unresolved issues and should be used with caution.
