14 DAY TRIAL // The Wine-Staging developers have announced earlier the release of Wine-Staging 1.9.10, arriving hot on the heels of the Wine 1.9.10 development snapshot of the free implementation of Windows on UNIX.
First, we would like to remind you that Wine 1.9.10 launched on May 16, 2016, with a high-resolution rendering option for Retina support on Mac OS X operating systems, some much-needed improvements to the video output, enhanced compatibility for the directory enumeration functionality, as well as several C++ runtime fixes.
Now, the biggest new feature of Wine-Staging 1.9.10, which also includes the Wine 1.9.10 changes mentioned above, is the re-implementation of CSMT (command stream multi-threading) support, a core functionality that got removed from the software due to some major differences between the new design included upstream and the original CSMT patchset.
Therefore, it looks like Wine's DirectX stack needed to be rewritten so that it could handle textures instead of surfaces, on which the old CSMT patchset was based. In the same manner, they also had to rewrite the entire CSMT patchset to implement support for the new texture approach, which has been included in today's release.
The wininet component has received bug fixes
Wine-Staging 1.9.10 brings good news for those who rely on the CSMT feature, as they can now safely update from Wine-Staging 1.9.5 to this new version and continue to enjoy all the performance improvements, and also to take advantage of the new goodies that have been implemented by Stefan Dösinger, the author of the patchset.
If you upgrade from Wine-Staging 1.9.5 to Wine-Staging 1.9.10, make sure that you retest the Windows applications that did not work well with the CSMT patchset until today. On the other hand, the wininet component received some important bug fixes in Wine-Staging 1.9.10, adding better support for the Warframe, TrackMania United Forever, and Rocket League games.
Last but not least, uPlay support is now functional again, and it is possible to connect to the server.
