Wine 1.9.20 was released the other day bringing various improvements and patching multiple issues for some Windows games and apps that users want to run on their GNU/Linux computers.

As you might know already, Wine is an open-source compatibility layer software application that has been designed from the ground up to allow Linux and Mac users to run Windows apps. Wine 1.9.20 is a development version and comes two weeks after the release of Wine 1.9.19.

According to the announcement, the biggest new features included in Wine 1.9.20 are the re-implementation of the clipboard API (Application Programming Interface), the implementation of message handling in the WebServices component, the addition of several new API Set libraries, and a bunch of different bug fixes.

Age of Mythology: Extended Edition should run better under Wine

Looking at the changelog, we can notice that a total of 18 issues reported by users since Wine 1.9.19 have been addressed in the Wine 1.9.20 release, patching issues for various Windows applications, among which we can mention ComboFix, Battle.net, GOG Galaxy, Windows 10 DISM, MeterBasic, Ellisys Visual USB, and Marvelous Designer 6.

The Sony Xperia Companion app, as well as the Age of Mythology: Extended Edition and World Of Tanks games, should now work much better under Wine. Other than that, it looks like the Nvidia GeForce GTX 690 graphics card has been added to the list of recognized GPUs, and the AMD Radeon HD 6480G one is correctly detected.

If you're running Wine 1.9.19 on your GNU/Linux operating system, we recommend that you update as soon as possible to Wine 1.9.20, which should be made available in the stable repositories soon. If you like compiling apps, you can download the Wine 1.9.20 sources right now via our website.
