14 DAY TRIAL // Today, June 10, 2016, the Wine development team has been proud to announce the release and immediate availability of yet another milestone towards the major Wine 2.0 software for running Windows apps and games on GNU/Linux distributions.
Wine 1.9.12 is the twelfth point release in the Wine 1.9 development series, coming two weeks after the launch of Wine 1.9.11. It improves the Shader Model 4 support in Direct3D, adds an initial build of a taskbar in desktop mode, improves the metafile support in RichEdit, and fixes right-to-left (RTL) languages in Uniscribe.
Moreover, it appears that Wine 1.9.12 contains a major update to the Mono engine, which promises to patch a lot of the issues discovered lately, and of course, it also resolves many of the bugs reported by users since Wine 1.9.11 or previous development releases with various Windows games and applications.
A total of 20 bugs have been fixed in Wine 1.9.12
According to the release notes, which we've attached at the end of the article for reference, Wine 1.9.12 addresses a total for 20 bugs for various Windows apps. Among them, we can mention Dance eJay Demo 7, Microsoft Paint from Windows 8, DVDFab 9.2.4.4, Lego Mindstorms EV3 Home Edition, and Internet Explorer. There's also better support for the Python 3.5.1 interpreter.
As for the Windows games that have received improvements in the Wine 1.9.12 development release, we can mention Dragon Age 2 Demo, Lemmings Revolution, DC Universe Online, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, and Trainz: A New Era. The latest Sega Genesis & Mega Drive update should now function correctly with the Wine 1.9.12 release.
Wine 1.9.12 is available for download right now via our website, as a source package that you'll need to compile yourself to install, but we recommend that you wait for your GNU/Linux operating system to ship the latest Wine development version in the main software repositories. Shortly, the Wine-Staging 1.9.12 release will arrive too, based, of course, on today's Wine 1.9.12 update.
