Redstone is expected to launch in 2016 with big changes

Microsoft rolls out Windows 10 cumulative updates every once in a while, but the first big update for the new operating system is projected to arrive in 2016, most likely in two waves and with significant changes.

Codenamed Redstone, this update is believed to be already in the works, and while Microsoft remains completely tight-lipped on this new project, designers across the world create their very own concepts to envision the ways the operating system might change in the coming months.

This is the case of the Windows 10 Redstone concept created by lukeled, who tried to revamp all key features of the operating system not only to get a cleaner and fresher look but also to be more useful to users with mouse and keyboards or touch screens.

Redesigned Start menu and action center

The first thing you might notice in this concept is the redesigned Start menu, which comes with transparency and new sizes for the live tiles. Indeed, live tiles still exist in this concept but include new features that might actually boost the appeal of the Start menu (or the Start screen if you like it more).

Interactive live tiles are part of this concept, and the music tile, for instance, comes with controls for music playback, which means that you can pause or play music without opening the app itself.

The action center has also been redesigned and now looks more modern, while File Explorer has received several key overhauls, including tabs, which are actually among the most requested features for Windows 10.

There’s no doubt that there still are things to improve in this concept and the final update won’t look too similar to this, but it’s very encouraging for both Microsoft and its users to see that there are so many ways to overhaul Windows 10. Hopefully, Microsoft sees this and takes the design into consideration when it creates the Redstone update.
