14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 Redstone 2 build 14942 for PC insiders a few hours ago, but once again, the company is holding back the release of a mobile build, as more work needs to be done on new features.
And while the wait is certainly difficult for mobile insiders, Microsoft promises more exciting improvements for Windows 10 Mobile builds, and the next release is now “likely” to launch next week.
Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, said in a short tweet that mobile insiders could receive a new build next week if everything goes according to plan. Of course, nothing is certain because, as it usually happens as part of the Insider program, should a major bug be found, builds are held back a little longer. Hopefully, internal testing will go smoothly for the next build and we get it in a few days.
Upcoming features leaked
As far as features planned for Windows 10 Mobile insiders are concerned, leaked screenshots have shown that the company will rename Phone update to Windows Update and align phones with PCs.
Furthermore, there’ll be a new Windows Update icon, as well as more advanced options for power users. Windows Update notifications will also show in the Action Center, a feature that has already landed on PCs with the latest preview build.
Microsoft might be planning even more changes for phones, but the full changelog will be unveiled when the build goes live next week. Furthermore, the phone focus is expected to increase in the coming months, as Microsoft has promised 2017 to be a more exciting year for mobile, so Redstone 2 should bring a plethora of new features to users who are still part of the ecosystem.
It goes without saying that fast ring insiders will be the ones getting the next build, so make sure you always keep your phones charged over 40 percent next week.
