14 DAY TRIAL // The official Formula 1 app for Windows devices has been around for a while, but today it finally received a major update that prepares it for the 2017 season.
Still available as a universal app, the official Formula 1 client comes with support for both PCs and mobile devices running Windows 10, and according to the official listing in the Windows Store, no support for Windows Phone 8.1 is being offered.
The feature lineup is pretty much the same as before, and you get live race leaderboards, latest news and videos, post-race highlights, schedule, team, and driver standings all for free.
Premium features
On the other hand, a F1 Access annual or monthly subscription brings you so much more, including official live timing of all F1 sessions, sector times with intervals and gaps, live tire and pit stop information, interactive 3D maps with driver gears and speeds, immersive dashboard with text commentary, team radio transmissions and others.
Those who want to purchase the premium access can do so straight from within the app, as the Windows 10 client includes a straightforward UI to become a subscriber.
“Get F1 Access to premium content through the App with either an annual or monthly subscription. If you choose to subscribe, you will be charged a price according to your country. The price will be shown in the App before you complete the payment,” the app description reads.
The Windows client comes with the same feature lineup as Android and iOS versions, so as far as Formula 1 fans are concerned, there is no need to switch to a rival platform to follow their favorite competition.
Unfortunately, the number of developers keeping all their apps in sync, including those available on Windows devices, is decreasing at a fast pace, mostly because many find no reason to keep coding for Windows phones given the dropping number of users.
