Windows 10 Mobile is almost here, and Microsoft is now giving the final touches to the last build that’s expected to be released to users by the end of the year.

In the meantime, however, Windows Phone, which is Microsoft’s current mobile platform, is performing unexpectedly well, with new statistics provided by Kantar for the three-month period ending in September 2015 revealing that it even managed to gain new users in some markets.

Windows 10 Mobile will be offered as a free upgrade to everyone running Windows Phone, but with no updates in the last few months and no new devices, the existing platform was expected to record a drop in worldwide markets.

Up in China, down in the United States

More specifically, Windows Phone has a market share of 7.6 percent in Germany, up 0.5 points from the same period the year before, while in the United Kingdom, it actually lost 0.3 percent to settle at 9.8 percent.

Things are still going well in France, where Windows Phone now has a share of 12.3 percent, up 1.7 points, but also in Australia, as it increased 1.2 points to 7.4 percent there.

Not the same thing can be said about the United States, though, where the lack of flagships is still causing a decline. Android is the number one platform in the country with 65.9 percent, followed by iOS with 29.2 percent, and Windows Phone with 3.9 percent. This is a decline of 0.4 percent for Microsoft platform.

In EU5, Windows Phone still has a market share above 10 percent, which shows that the biggest markets in Europe are still bringing better sales to Microsoft as far as its mobile platform is concerned and when compared to non-European countries.

Obviously, Microsoft hopes to see bigger improvements all over the globe when Windows 10 Mobile launches in just a few weeks.
