Stats show that Windows Phone actually increased in April

Windows Phone is considered to be a platform that has no future, despite the fact that Microsoft has clearly stated that mobile is still playing a key role in its vision.

And despite the criticism, Windows phones not only survive but also actually gain ground. Or at least, that’s what the latest figures provided by Net Applications seem to indicate.

Back in April, Windows Phone has managed to increase its share from 2.54 percent to no less than 4.03 percent, which is kind of a personal record for Microsoft’s mobile operating system. Often considered the mobile OS with just 3 percent market share, Windows Phone has thus managed to reach 4 percent in just a single month.

Given Microsoft’s own figures, which pointed to a drop for Windows Phone, it’s hard to tell whether these figures are accurate or not, but they could be a sign that despite the criticism, this platform can still survive.

iOS goes down, down, down

As for the operating system that actually lost ground, the only one here is iOS, which dropped from 31.76 percent the month before to 28.42 percent. This was kind of expected, however, given the fact that iPhone sales declined too, and a continued drop is likely to take place in the coming months as well.

Android remains the clear leader of the mobile industry, according to Net Applications, as it increased its share from 60.99 percent to 61.92 percent.

Judging from these figures, iOS seems to be the biggest loser of the month, while both Android and Windows Phone have increased their shares during the period.

Clearly, Windows Phone’s new personal record is the most important achievement, despite the fact that it’s still behind its rivals. Microsoft has promised more cool things for the platform in 2017, so if Windows Phone manages to at least maintain its current market share, then we might be in for a few surprises when the Surface Phone finally hits the shelves.
