Microsoft’s still investing in its mobile strategy, but despite this, many analysts and experts rushed to predict the end of Windows Phone, saying not only that it doesn’t stand a chance against iOS and Android but also that it’ll constantly lose users until reaching 0 percent market share.

And yet, new statistics provided for the month of November 2015 via wmpu show that Windows Phone actually managed to increase its market share, despite the criticism and despite the imminent arrival of Windows 10 Mobile.

Net Applications, the market research firm that provides us with insights into desktop operating systems market share, also offers mobile share stats, thus letting us know which platform performed the best each month.

And in November 2015, Windows Phone managed to achieve an important market share increase, growing from 2.90 percent to 3.14 percent.

Why is this share increase important?

Obviously, it doesn’t make much sense to call a 0.24 percent market share increase important. Not at first glance, anyway.

But for Windows Phone, this is the second consecutive month when the platform managed to go up instead of declining. Windows Phone decreased from 2.60 percent in August to 2.48 percent in September, but then it started growing bigger again to 2.90 percent in October and to 3.14 percent in November.

And what’s more important is that this is the very first time when Windows Phone actually went past the 3 percent market share, at least according to these figures offered by Net Applications.

Windows Phone has always been referred to as the mobile OS with 3 percent market share, but now that it continuously increases its score, and with help from Windows 10 Mobile, the platform is really well positioned to finally become a better alternative to iOS and Android. The arrival of new Lumia flagships should also help, so the future seems to look bright for Microsoft’s mobile business.
