Concept imagines a series of improvements to RS2

Microsoft itself has set pretty high expectations for Windows 10 Mobile Redstone 2 when it said that 2017 would bring many more improvements to phones, so now Windows Phone fans expect this important release to mark another beginning for their favorite mobile platform.

And while it’s still too early to tell if Microsoft can deliver on this promise or not, skilled designers in this community come with all kinds of ideas, some of which can actually be implemented, on how Windows 10 Mobile Redstone 2 could be overhauled.

One of the best concepts has been published on somethingcotton.info and imagines a Windows 10 Mobile upgrade that begins with the Start screen and ends with features that would bring the mobile operating system in line with its desktop sibling.

As you can see in the photo gallery below, the concept, which is nicely called “Second Anniversary,” proposes large tiles with more content and more customization options, no menu controls at the bottom of the screen, and a top bar that would make Cortana available everywhere.

Navigation controls, including a back button, would be included in universal apps by default, and so would be a gesture that would make it super easy for users to go backwards wherever they are in the operating system.

A Start menu and a taskbar

There’s also an implementation of the Start menu and a taskbar, and this is where the concept still needs some refinements. The buttons are definitely too small to be used on a phone screen with touch, so Windows 10 Mobile might just not be ready for such a feature.

On the other hand, the concept also envisions how split screen multi-tasking would look in Windows 10 Mobile, but also a redesign of the key features of the operating system to waste less screen space and adopt a layout that makes more sense. Cortana, the Action Center, and other sections also get a makeover in this concept.

One of the most requested Windows 10 Mobile updates also makes an appearance. Interactive live tiles, which make it possible to access certain app features without even launching the apps, show up once again, confirming one more time that users would absolutely love to have this on their phones.

Without a doubt and leaving the small refinements that are still needed here and there, this is one of the best concepts we’ve seen so far, so let's just hope that Microsoft sees it and actually uses it for the final version of Redstone 2.
