14 DAY TRIAL // If you're a Windows Phone fan looking to buy a new device this Christmas, you're in luck. Best Buy has some pretty big discounts on Lumia 435 and Lumia 640, both of which will be able to run Windows 10 Mobile when the new OS goes live for existing phones.
Specifically, Lumia 435 locked on T-Mobile, but without a contract, is available at Best Buy for $29.99, which is one of the lowest prices this model has received since launch.
The Lumia 640 on AT&T, but again without a contract, can be yours at the store for $49.99. Only the black version seems to be available for now, but you should really hurry up because this is a limited-time offer and it is valid as supplies last.
Windows 10 Mobile to be supported by both models
While both the Lumia 435 and the 640 come with Windows Phone, the devices will support Windows 10 Mobile when the new OS becomes available.
According to Microsoft itself, the new operating system is projected to launch in early 2016, but specifics are not yet available. And yet, what we do know is that Windows 10 Mobile will work on all devices currently running Windows Phone, including those with low hardware capabilities.
The Lumia 435, for example, which is, in essence, a low-end phone, will be able to run Windows 10 Mobile quite nicely despite its 4-inch screen and the 1 GB of memory. Microsoft spent a considerable amount of time to optimize the operating system for low-end devices, so it guarantees that W10M will work smoothly on phones with small screens or even 512 MB of RAM.
Some features could be missing on these models, though, because of their limited hardware capabilities, but anyway, Windows 10 Mobile will be there, so these new Best Buy offers are definitely great deals to grab a new phone for Christmas.
