This is pretty much the most portable version of Windows 7

Windows 7 continues to be the most popular Windows version to date, no matter what Microsoft says about Windows 10, and statistics show that nearly 50 percent of desktop computers are still running it these days.

And with a little luck, Windows 7 can expand beyond the desktop screen and arrive no further than your wrist, as some developers at Android Community (via PA) managed to install it on an Android Wear smartwatch.

Does this project come with any real benefit for an Android Wear smartwatch owner? Certainly not, but for the sake of experience, it’s good to know that it’s actually possible to get Windows 7 running on a 280x280 pixels display.

Booting in 3 hours

But here comes the more interesting part. While working with Windows 7 on such a small touchscreen is painful to say the least, you actually need to get through a critical test before reaching this point. It’s a waiting test actually because booting Windows 7 on this kind of device takes not one, not two, but three hours.

It goes without saying that Windows 7 is a major battery hog on Android Wear devices, so if you want to give it a try, make sure not only that your battery is fully charged, but also that the device is plugged to the charger. It appears that it often happens for the watch to shut down when booting to the desktop because neither the battery nor the charger can cope with the power consumption, but all it takes one second to be proud of yourself that you actually got Windows 7 running on your watch.

In the end, this project is another sign that the opportunities on an Android Wear watch are unlimited, whereas an Apple Watch makes it impossible not to get Windows 7 running on it, but to get new watch faces. For what it’s worth, someone actually managed to install Windows 95 on an Apple Watch, but it takes by far more work for every single little step.
