Still on Creators Update? New cumulative update for you too

This month’s Patch Tuesday cycle brought cumulative updates for all Windows 10 versions released so far, including for the RTM build which continues to be supported for LTSB customers.

While many users have already migrated to the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (version 1709) or are in the process of doing it, plenty of systems are still running the Creators Update (version 1703), as the upgrade to the latest release is still being evaluated.

Those who are yet to upgrade are now provided with a new cumulative update that pushes version number to 15063.786 and which includes several important fixes and security improvements.

It goes without saying that since it’s a Patch Tuesday release, cumulative update KB4053580 brings security fixes as well, with Microsoft explaining in the official change log that vulnerabilities in the Scripting Engine, Edge browser, and Windows Server are being resolved with this update.

Accidental upgrades for CBB users

Additionally, Windows 10 cumulative update KB4053580 updates Internet Explorer’s default visibility for the button that launches Microsoft Edge – this is an improvement that was included by Microsoft in all the other cumulative updates, so it looks like it was quite a priority for the company.

Then, there are fixes for issues where users of SQL Server Reporting Services weren’t able to use the scrollbar in a drop-down list. Listed as a known issue in the previous cumulative updates, this particular issue has been around for approximately two months, so it’s good to see Microsoft finally dealing with it.

There’s also a fix for a more special bug. Microsoft says that some Windows 10 devices on the Current Branch for Business (CBB) were upgraded to the latest version of the operating system unexpectedly, so this new cumulative update should fix this accidental behavior.

What’s worth mentioning is that this update appears to install correctly for the majority of users, and at the time of writing this article, there are only isolated cases of post-installation issues. Also, Microsoft says it’s not aware of any issues with cumulative update KB4053580.
